City Stages: Cheick Hamala Diabate

Diabate successfully fuses the traditional rhythms and vocals of his ancestors with the more electric American sounds he has absorbed over the past decade living in the US. City Stages is presented by the Cleveland Museum of Art and FRONT International.

Over the past 35 years, Marshall has created groundbreaking and widely acclaimed work that challenges art historical traditions by representing narratives composed entirely of African American figures. A monumental woodcut anchors the exhibition, accompanied by smaller drawings. Allen Ruppersberg: Then and Now

Ruppersberg pays homage to his hometown in a new series of photographs taken from the vantage point of billboards across Cleveland. Installed in metal light boxes, they serve as a reminder of the city’s industrial history.
