Description

Transparent tracing paper was laid over the drawing on the left so that the image could be redrawn onto it. Arms also embellished the composition with additions to the landscape at the left and shaded the scene overall. Since the image was then transferred from the tracing paper to the copper plate in this direction, when the plate was inked and printed, the image was reversed.
A vertically oriented graphite drawing on beige paper overlooks buildings cluttering a steep cliffside. Multistory houses with pitched roofs and chimneys cluster in the middle ground, ascending toward a castle with a slender tower at the summit. In the lower foreground, an outlined path curves from the right. Loose, grainy lines and squiggly marks define the architecture and leafy trees, set against a backdrop of faint, drifting clouds.
