Description
Transparent tracing paper was laid over the drawing on the left so that the image could be redrawn onto it. Arms also embellished the composition with additions to the landscape at the left and shaded the scene overall. Since the image was then transferred from the tracing paper to the copper plate in this direction, when the plate was inked and printed, the image was reversed.- Modern Gothic: The Etchings of John Taylor Arms.
