About The Event

Join us at the Community Arts Center for an opening reception to welcome the pop-up Maya textile display. Take a look inside Maya culture with our partners, Parents Education Network Students Activating Resources (PENSAR), Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio, artist Héctor Castellanos-Lara, and linguist and Maya cultural expert Laura Martin, PhD. Learn the cultural significance of the objects on view. Enjoy a live marimba group, Mi Quetzalenses, performing traditional Guatemalan music. Participate in art activities that incorporate weaving techniques, symbolism, and identity. Complimentary coloring books by Marilyn Anderson along with food and drinks are all provided. Take part in this creative cultural experience! Objects are on view during Community Arts Center open hours through October 15.


Te invitamos al Centro de Artes Comunitarias para una recepción de apertura para dar la bienvenida a la exhibición emergente de Textiles Mayas. Echa un vistazo al interior de la cultura maya con nuestros socios, Parents Education Network Students Activating Resources (PENSAR), Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio, el artista Héctor Castellanos-Lara, y la lingüista y experta en cultura maya Laura Martin, PhD.
