About The Event

Are you seeking a space of comfort and safety to discuss the challenges and complexities of being a mother? Join Habeebah Grimes (Positive Education Program), Marlene Morris (Birthing Beautiful Communities), Heather Clayton Terry, and Joyce Huang (MidTown Cleveland) for an evening of communal discussion and reflection on the impact of COVID-19 on mothers in Cleveland. Organized in collaboration with ThirdSpace Action Lab and Birthing Beautiful Communities in tandem with the CMA exhibition Picturing Motherhood Now.

ThirdSpace Action Lab was created to disrupt the vicious cycle of disinvestment and displacement that negatively impacts the vitality of low-income communities of color. They are a grassroots research, strategy, and design cooperative dedicated to prototyping creative place-based solutions to complex socioeconomic problems.

Birthing Beautiful Communities is a community of birth workers, or doulas, primarily providing social support to pregnant women at highest risk for infant mortality during the prenatal period. BBC addresses the social determinants of health and real-life circumstances that at-risk mothers face, making them vulnerable to infant mortality.
