About The Event

Join graduate curatorial fellow Jillian Kruse for a lecture about the exciting new exhibition Imagination in the Age of Reason opening this fall in the James and Hanna Bartlett Prints and Drawings Galleries. This show, pulled from the CMA’s rich holdings of 18th-century European prints and drawings, explores the complex role of imagination in the art of the Enlightenment period in Europe (about 1685–1815), which has long been celebrated as “the age of reason.” In this talk, discover some exciting recent acquisitions and consider collection highlights in a new light while learning more about how Enlightenment-era artists used the power of the imagination to expose hidden truths, conjure strange worlds, or concoct illusions. This event is for the Painting and Drawing Society.
