About The Event

In 1966 Danny Lyon, who had been photographing the southern civil rights movement and a midwestern motorcycle gang, moved to New York and began photographing buildings. He felt compelled to document two historic neighborhoods about to be razed in the name of urban renewal. Join the famed artist and filmmaker as he discusses what motivated him to create the visual eulogy The Destruction of Lower Manhattan (on view in gallery 230); he also provides insight into his most recent work.

Sponsored in part by the Friends of Photography of the Cleveland Museum of Art
