Did You Know?

Risaku Suzuki was inspired to photograph Mont Sainte-Victoire after seeing Paul Cézanne’s paintings of the mountain.

Description

Suzuki used two cameras to photograph the mountain: a 6 x 7-inch camera to allow for a sense of spontaneous movement, and an 8 x 10-inch view camera to capture more static views. The 43 color images in the series comprise a journey up the mountain from the pine forests at its base to the peak’s barren crags.
