Did You Know?

In 1933, the area known as Palestine, now known as Israel, was ruled by the British.

Description

Ellen Auerbach, who was Jewish and politically liberal, realized in 1933 that she needed to leave her native Germany. The only place she could get permission to settle was Palestine. To support herself, she made short films and opened a studio specializing in photographs of children. For herself, she took a number of photographs of the open, terraced lands she saw while traveling through the country.
