Did You Know?

The manuscript probably served as a history textbook for a prince during his education.

Description

Books in the vernacular became particularly popular at the courts in the 1400s. The main part of this manuscript, written in French, consists of the Chronique of Enguerrand de Monstrelet, covering the period from 1400 to 1444 with a focus on France, the Netherlands, and England. Four different, partly anonymous illuminators, one of them Philippe de Mazerolles, chief illuminator at the Burgundian court, were involved in the production of the manuscript.
