Description

This print features a self-portrait by artist Lev Mills alongside an eclectic selection of found imagery. Active as a screenprinter in London during the 1960s and 70s, Mills often used such unexpected juxtapositions drawn from popular culture as a means of creating what one art historian has described as a “Black power aesthetic.” Lev studied with master printmaker Stanley William Hayter before discovering screenprint during a fellowship at London’s Slade School, and it quickly became his preferred medium.
