Did You Know?

There are a number of above-ground subway stations in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

Description

Sophie Rivera lived near one of the city’s above-ground subway stations and she frequently photographed the men rebuilding the line’s infrastructure. Here she captured a worker mid-leap, echoing the famous and influential idea of a photograph capturing a “decisive moment,” an idea described by French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.
