Description

An etrog box protects and stores the etrog, a citrus fruit used in the Jewish festival of Sukkot, which celebrates the fall harvest and commemorates the Israelites' exodus from Egypt in pursuit of the Promised Land. The decoration of this box includes Jewish historical and religious figures, a scene of a family celebrating Sukkot, the Zodiac, and Hebrew inscriptions referring to Sukkot.
A silver lid features a flared conical base decorated with engraved medallions and a row of hanging leaf-shaped pendants. Atop the lid sits a rectangular plaque depicting five people seated at a table. From our viewpoint, stylized trees with birds perched on top flank the central plaque. The polished surface displays intricate cutout designs and fine line engravings throughout, including symbols of scales and figures within the medallions.
