Did You Know?

Early childhood education is critical because a child’s brain develops more than at any other time.

Description

Sage Sohier was commissioned by The George Gund Foundation to document early childhood education classes at pre-schools that were part of Invest in Children, Cuyahoga County’s public-private early childhood partnership. Her images, says the foundation, “offer a delightful glimpse into the daily lives of these preschoolers as they learn about the world around them and build the critical foundation needed for success in later life.”
A horizontally oriented, black-and-white photograph depicts a young girl with a medium skin tone lying on a narrow cot. She faces our left, resting her head on a white sheet with her knees pulled toward her chest. Her wide eyes look directly at the viewer, and her dark hair is styled in two puffs. She wears layered light shirts, denim jeans, and sandals. A textured blanket bunches on the cot below her.
