Did You Know?

Early childhood education is critical because a child’s brain develops more than at any other time.

Description

Sage Sohier was commissioned by The George Gund Foundation to document early childhood education classes at pre-schools that were part of Invest in Children, Cuyahoga County’s public-private early childhood partnership. Her images, says the foundation, “offer a delightful glimpse into the daily lives of these preschoolers as they learn about the world around them and build the critical foundation needed for success in later life.”
A horizontally oriented black-and-white photograph depicts six children with dark skin tones playing in a gym. In the foreground, a girl with beaded braids looks toward us on the right, while another child sits with their back to us. To the left, a child reclines in a ball pit with arms extended. Behind them, three girls climb on padded mats. A wheeled cart stands in the background.
