Did You Know?

Early childhood education is critical because a child’s brain develops more than at any other time.

Description

Sage Sohier was commissioned by The George Gund Foundation to document early childhood education classes at pre-schools that were part of Invest in Children, Cuyahoga County’s public-private early childhood partnership. Her images, says the foundation, “offer a delightful glimpse into the daily lives of these preschoolers as they learn about the world around them and build the critical foundation needed for success in later life.”
A horizontally oriented black-and-white photograph depicts five children in a cluttered play area. Centrally, a child with dark hair wears a striped sweater and denim pants, crouching while holding gray plastic handles. To our left, a child with light skin faces us with a stuffed moose on their head. On the far left, another child gazes down at a doll. To our right, a child with light skin holds a toy phone to their ear.
