A horizontally oriented albumen print in sepia tones depicts a wide canal flowing toward a stone arched bridge. Along the left bank, rows of buildings and moored gondolas line the water. In the upper right, light breaks through heavy clouds, reflecting onto the smooth surface. Slender towers rise above the cityscape on the far left and right, while several masted vessels rest in the center.
