Did You Know?

Seifū Yohei III was inspired by the Chinese mythical animals that were common on porcelain objects made at Jingdezhen in China during the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) and then exported around the world.

Description

Each of these sake cups pictures two backward-looking dragons. The highly stylized creatures resemble jade carvings.
A white porcelain cup features a rounded body and a thin, reddish-brown rim. A blue painting of a dragon wraps around the vessel, its scaled body and swirling mane surrounded by wisps of blue clouds. Two thin blue lines encircle the cup below the rim, and two more wrap around the raised base. The smooth white surface highlights the decoration, with various shades of blue visible in the dragon's body.
