Did You Know?

The lid's handle is made of bamboo.

Description

Like his father, Yohei IV also produced works with red or yellow monochrome glazes. His yellow-glazed works include this pair of sake pourers, a set of five drinking cups CMA 2022.217, and a sweets bowl molded into the shape of a chrysanthemum CMA 2022.218.
A circular, slightly domed lid of pale yellow glazed porcelain features a central handle of two short brown bamboo sticks tied with cord. The glossy, uniform surface reflects light across its curve, emphasizing its smooth, polished texture. Near the lower-left edge, a single small circular hole pierces the porcelain. The minimalist design highlights the contrast between the refined glaze and the organic material of the handle.
