Did You Know?

Seifū Yohei IV was active at home and abroad and won international recognition for his ceramic's glazes and designs.

Description

Like his father, Yohei IV also produced works with red monochrome glazes, like this red coral–glazed sweets bowl with white interior.
A rounded porcelain bowl is encased in a uniform, deep coral red glaze. The exterior color stops abruptly at the rim, revealing a crisp white edge that transitions into a smooth white interior. The vessel tapers toward a short, circular foot, where the red glaze terminates in a slightly irregular line, exposing a thin band of white porcelain. Its simple, elegant profile highlights the saturated, unblemished quality of the glaze.
