Description

Showing social hour at a health retreat, Jeff Jacobson’s photograph puts the viewer into the scene. By combining a strobe flash with a slow shutter speed, Jacobson makes the solid contours of figures melt and makes the light seem to throb. The gaze and expressions of the two men eyeing the dancer’s exposed, gyrating flesh create a humorous, yet also judgmental, scene.
A horizontally oriented color photograph depicts two men and a woman, all with light skin tones. On our left, a man in a blue blazer and patterned sash looks toward our left. Beside him, a man in a lavender shirt wears a red fringed sash and looks toward our right. In the blurred foreground on our right, a woman in an ornate jeweled costume holds finger cymbals, her bare midriff and hands illuminated.
