Description

Hewit prepared carefully for the lithograph Old Man, as this is one of four drawings of the sitter in Sketchbook No. 1.
A vertically oriented graphite drawing on beige paper depicts a church with a central bell tower. The building features gabled roofs, arched windows, and a circular window above the door. To the lower left, a smaller structure with a chimney stands behind a row of bushes. Swirling, expressive lines convey foliage on our right and paths in the foreground. Light hatching provides minimal shading on the building's architectural surfaces.
