Description

Hewit prepared carefully for the lithograph Old Man, as this is one of four drawings of the sitter in Sketchbook No. 1.
A graphite sketch on off-white paper depicts the head and shoulders of a man, Joe H., in three-quarter view. Rendered with loose, expressive lines, his face features short hair and a neutral expression. Light hatching defines shadows along his neck and the right side of his face. He wears a collared shirt and tie. Below the figure, the signature "Joe H." is written in large, sweeping cursive.
