Description

As its name suggests, Environmental Ceramics, Inc., was a firm in tune with the major social issues of the 1960s. This interest was reflected in products that tended to take the form of "natural" objects, including birds and fish. Its egg tureen—available in both white and brown and in a smaller, sauce tureen size—was one of the firm’s most important designs. Grand in size and simplicity, this tureen is a striking product of the earth-centered culture of 1960s San Francisco.
A pale yellow ceramic tureen stand features a wide, circular body with a broad, flat rim. The smooth, matte surface slopes inward toward a shallow depression in the center. Its outer edge tapers to a thin, rounded lip that curves slightly upward. The low, spreading dish sits on a narrow base, casting a soft shadow beneath its flared profile.
