A vertically oriented photogravure in warm brown tones depicts Upshaw, an Apsaroke man, from the waist up. Facing forward, he wears a voluminous white fur headdress with a beaded headband and long fur pendants. Layers of tubular beaded necklaces drape across his bare chest, featuring two semi-circular shell discs. His right hand rests at our lower left. He looks directly at us with a steady gaze and firmly set mouth.
