A vertically oriented volume features a dark, pebbled leather spine and tan cloth sides. Gold-leaf lettering identifies "THE NORTH AMERICAN INDIAN" by "CURTIS," specifying "VOL. I" and "APACHE JICARILLAS NAVAHO." Thin gilt bands and fine vertical lines divide the spine, with "1907" stamped at the base. A white library label is affixed to the lower leather. To the right, a sharp diagonal transition leads to tan fabric.
