Did You Know?

This impression of a book of woodblock-printed designs is missing a spread that depicts a crane.
Spanning two pages of an open folding book, this woodblock print in black ink on cream paper depicts a flowering plum branch. A thick, wash-shaded trunk rises from the lower left, from which a spindly limb sweeps horizontally. Delicate blossoms rendered in fine outlines and dark-centered buds sparsely dot the branch. Vertical Japanese calligraphy is inscribed in the lower left, balancing the minimalist composition.
