An open woodblock-printed book features two vertical pages of cream-colored paper. Fluid columns of black Japanese calligraphy run vertically, the ink occasionally fading or streaking (see "Inscriptions"). Clusters of smaller characters sit at the base. The overall composition is horizontally oriented, highlighting the varied, rhythmic flow of text across the textured, aged surface.
