An open woodblock-printed book features vertical rows of black-inked Japanese calligraphy on cream paper (see "Inscriptions"). On the left, the ink varies in density within a thin black rectangular border. The textured paper shows visible creases, fiber remnants, and light staining throughout. The right page is mostly blank, showing a mottled surface and darker bands at the top and bottom.
