An open woodblock-printed book features ten vertical rows of fluid, black-inked Japanese calligraphy on cream-colored paper (see "Inscriptions"). The loopy characters streak down the right page, with ink occasionally fading across the textured surface. Smaller, angular characters are clustered near the bottom right. The left page remains blank, highlighting the horizontal spread and the contrast between the rhythmic writing and the plain, uninked paper.
