An open woodblock-printed book spread features multiple vertical columns of black ink Japanese calligraphy on aged, cream-colored paper. Flowing script streaks down the upper portions, while shorter columns of smaller characters form a row along the bottom. The ink occasionally fades against the textured grain. Small red marks accent the base of several columns on the left page, punctuating the intricate layout and historical nature of the text.
