One side of a gold coin features an inscription circling an image (see "Inscriptions" field). Edward VI appears in profile from the waist up, wearing a crown and detailed armor. He holds an upright sword in his right hand and a cross-topped orb in his left. Concentric beaded borders frame the king and the outer Latin inscription, which reads in part, "EDWARD VI D G AGL FRA Z HIB REX."
