Did You Know?

William Sommer is considered one of the major artists who pioneered modernism in Cleveland.
A vertically oriented, partially abstract watercolor and ink drawing features a speckled lavender horse facing left. Circular forms mark its hindquarters, while sweeping teardrop shapes in muted red and pink swirl behind the animal, intersected by thin cross-hatched lines. Upper center, a pale blue wash reveals a simplified house shape. Wavy ink lines suggest movement throughout the abstract, layered space.
