Description

The faience factory at Sinceny was an offshoot of that at Rouen. In style, Sinceny closely resembles later Rouen wares with polychrome decoration. The stylized flowers and insects which decorate this writing stand are entirely typical of Sinceny faience.
A small, cylindrical tin-glazed earthenware vessel features a flat top perforated with decorative openings. At the center, six yellow-outlined teardrop shapes form a blossom around a middle hole, surrounded by a ring of circular, blue-rimmed vents. Tiny reddish-brown dots fill the crackled white surface. A delicate, scalloped reddish-brown line and a thick blue border encircle the rim, which shows signs of wear and chipping.
