Description

The faience factory at Sinceny was an offshoot of that at Rouen. In style, Sinceny closely resembles later Rouen wares with polychrome decoration. The stylized flowers and insects which decorate this writing stand are entirely typical of Sinceny faience.
A tin-glazed earthenware writing stand features a high, peaked back panel and a tiered base with scalloped edges. Orange and blue floral motifs, birds, and insects scatter across the white, crackled surface. The base holds rectangular trays and circular wells, with small round holes lining the sides. Enamel-decorated floral vines wrap the exterior edges. This functional object blends ornate nature-inspired patterns with several recessed compartments.
