Description

Nelme was one of the most famous and successful native English silversmiths of a time when Huguenots (French Protestants) dominated the creation of richly decorated pieces for the most fashionable market.
A polished silver lid rises from a circular, stepped base into a smooth hemispherical dome. Concentric ridges encircle the tiered foundation and the area surrounding the decorative handle. At the apex, a finial composed of stacked, rounded forms features a large bulbous shape capped by a small sphere. The object's highly reflective surface emphasizes its symmetrical profile and clean, classical proportions.
