Before 1930, Kálmán Kubinyi went by Coleman Kubinyi, hence the signature C. A. Kubinyi on this print.

Description

This shaded walkway scene could have been created in Debrecen, where Kubinyi designed two other lithographs in the museum’s collection. While the image does not directly match any of the city’s famous gates or arches, it captures the scale of Hungary’s architecture through the inclusion of a small human figure. The thick trees and bushes framing the gate imply the age of the structure, though the decorative diamond pattern is rendered in a sleek, contemporary art deco style.
A vertically oriented lithograph depicts an arched stone gateway nearly engulfed by dense, textured foliage. Expressive hatching and stippling suggest dark vines climbing high above the arch. In the center, the shaded opening reveals a bright courtyard beyond, where a silhouetted figure stands. A dark mound sits on the ground in the lower left, while handwritten markings occupy both bottom corners.
