Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on two sketchbook pages features various sketches. On our left, loose, scribbled lines suggest garden foliage. Vertical cursive text in the center reads "Evening." On our right, two women sit together in wide-brimmed hats and long dresses. The woman on the left appears in profile facing right, while the second sits behind her. Thin, sketchy lines define the figures and background throughout the composition.
