Description

This sketchbook contains 69 pages of drawings, a diary largely devoted to the state of the artist's health, and a three-page discourse on the nature of genius and ideas.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on two pages of a yellowed, lined notebook features gestural sketches of sailboats. On the left, dark, loose lines define four boats beneath a simplified house and horizon line. To the right, three sailboats with tall, thin masts float above wavy lines suggesting the water's surface. Hand-written numbers 124 and 125 appear in the lower outer corners of each page.
