A vertically oriented wood engraving in black ink depicts a youth seated on a log in profile, facing our right. Wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat and a long tunic, they hold a slender stick pointing skyward. Fine, dense hatching creates texture and shade. Beyond, a low horizon reveals a flat landscape with birds in flight. At the bottom center, an inscription reads "WATCHING THE CROWS."
