A horizontally oriented gum tempera and ink painting on a tan palm leaf depicts three rectangular blocks of dense dark script. Two circular holes are cut through the leaf between the central and flanking blocks. Small characters and numbers appear in the margins, including the number "13" on the far right (see "Inscriptions"). The leaf displays a prominent horizontal grain and slightly rounded, uneven ends.
