A rectangular bronze plaque features a relief of a lion seated on a pedestal. Behind it, craggy rock faces rise toward a long building from which sun rays fan out in straight lines. The bottom is inscribed with capital letters reading "AUX DEFENSEVRS DE BELFORT." The warm golden-brown patina highlights alternating smooth and rough textures, with light glinting off the sharp, geometric edges of the building and the radiating rays.
