A bronze medal features two circular relief faces. On the left, a bust of Martin Luther shows a somber expression and heavy robes beneath an arc of German text. On the right, a monk nails a scroll to a cathedral door, flanked by the dates 1517 and 1917 and topped by an open book. English text along the perimeter commemorates the Reformation quadricentennial. Light gleams off the smooth bronze surfaces.
