Celebrate the Holidays at the Cleveland Museum of Art

CLEVELAND (October 29, 2021) — Celebrate the holidays at the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA). Visitors can tour limited-time exhibitions like Revealing Krishna: Journey to Cambodia’s Sacred Mountain and Picturing Motherhood Now. A special discounted combination ticket for Revealing Krishna and Picturing Motherhood Now is available for $25.

Holiday tickets are expected to book quickly and are not guaranteed. The museum recommends reserving tickets in advance.

To reserve combination tickets, visit the Revealing Krishna ticket site, choose a desired date and time and select the combination ticket. Tickets to both exhibitions must be used on the same day.

Revealing Krishna is a timed exhibition, so visitors can attend Picturing Motherhood Now before or after. Combination tickets are available during the time in which both shows are open: November 14, 2021, to January 30, 2022.

Combination tickets can also be reserved by phone at 216-421-7350 or on-site at one of the ticket desks.

Holidays at CMA Activities

Visitors can explore free exhibitions and favorite galleries, enjoy lunch in the museum’s Ames Family Atrium, Cleveland’s largest free interior public space, and snap a photo with family and friends in front of the holiday wreath and tree and menorah. Holiday-inspired treats will be available for purchase in Provenance Café.

  Through an integration of art, technology and experiential design, this first-of-its-kind exhibition presents the story, context and new restoration of the CMA’s Cambodian masterwork, Krishna Lifting Mount Govardhan.

  The exhibition explores the mola, a hand-sewn cotton blouse and a key component of traditional dress among the Guna women of Panamá, as both a cultural marker and the product of an artistic tradition. It demonstrates the important role women artists play in the construction of social identity.

• Life and Exploits of Krishna in Indian Paintings

  Twenty-one works from the Indian subcontinent, made between the mid-1600s to mid-1900s, place the pivotal moment when Krishna raised Mount Govardhan in the context of the conquests, miracles and pastimes of his early life story.

  In the 1960s, artists in Europe and the US began to look to everyday commodities and commercial images for inspiration. In fact, this artistic movement began in Korea around the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This exhibition features colorful folding screens and blue-and-white porcelains replete with images of mass-produced utilitarian objects and popular luxury items that once furnished the living spaces of middle-class households.

• Art of the Islamic World

  The works in this gallery were created during the 8th through 19th centuries, a period of great cultural and geographic expansion. They represent a vast area including Spain, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. While the pieces on view originate within the Islamic world, they reflect the unique artistic and cultural traditions of disparate regions.

• Medieval Treasures from Münster Cathedral
  Through August 14, 2022
  Gallery 115
  Gold and silver reliquaries, jeweled crosses, liturgical garments and illuminated manuscripts are among the rare treasures kept in the Cathedral of Saint Paul at Münster, in northwestern Germany. Many of Münster’s reliquaries were permanently displayed on the altar, while others were brought out only during liturgical celebrations. Medieval Treasures includes eight of these sumptuous reliquaries.

• Women in Print: Recent Acquisitions

Additional Information

The CDC and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health recommend wearing face coverings in public settings to slow the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant. The CMA requires everyone—all visitors, staff and volunteers—to wear a face covering inside the building.

The CMA’s current hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays. Updated hours will be announced as decided. Visit cma.org to stay up to date on this information.

The CMA is closed December 25 and January 1. Additionally, the CMA closes at 4 p.m. December 24 and December 31.
