Terry Riley’s music is heard in two short films. First up is a 1976 experimental film by Bruce Conner that looks closely at the 1945 atomic bomb explosion on Bikini Atoll. The second is a 1969 movie made for San Francisco television in which music is wedded to abstract visuals. Tom Welsh, the museum’s director of City Stages, will introduce and discuss the films. 35mm preservation print of Crossroads courtesy of the UCLA Film & Television Archive. Special thanks to the Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, for the video of Music with Balls.
