Description
Joel Shapiro works with a concentrated, geometric vocabulary that can be seen as both figurative and abstract. Primarily a sculptor, Shapiro makes drawings in order to clarify ideas and approach certain intentions that he cannot realize in sculpture. This large drawing depicts a sleek arrangement of blocks referencing a figure that, although headless, relays physicality and movement.- Joel ShapiroMartin Kline, Rhinebeck NYPrivate Collection, Rhinebeck, NY2/26/2018The Cleveland Museum of Art
