Description

Lange operated a successful portrait studio in San Francisco that catered to the city’s elite. Jolted from her comfort by the evidence of massive unemployment, hunger, and homelessness that she saw through her studio window, she began photographing bread lines, labor demonstrations, and strikes—the impact of the Great Depression.
