Description

Like so many of Lichtenstein's early prints, The Heavier-than-Air-Machine is a whimsical comment on the artist's ongoing interest in such serious enterprises as science and engineering. This print is a playful conception of an early airplane, in which the motor, wings, and markings have been segmented into red, blue, and umber forms, but the tail assembly has been left intact.
