Directed by Marc Allégret. This rare silent feature was shot during André Gide's influential 1926–27 expedition to French Equatorial Africa (including what is now the Republic of the Congo) that resulted in his anti-colonialist book of the same name. Live piano accompaniment by Sebastian Birch.
