A vertically oriented etching in black ink depicts a tall figure wrapped in a swirling, rippling robe standing on our left. Facing him, the Sphinx crouches on a stone block, its head bound in cloth with hair flowing toward our right. Fine hatching and cross-hatching create deep texture and shadows. The landscape is barren, with small pyramids on the distant horizon. Repeated, thin lines define the scene's surreal, desolate composition.
